FAQs

What are common causes of gingivitis and other dental diseases?

Gingivitis occurs from inflammation in the gum following a build up of plaque. As plaque builds up in the teeth, so does disease causing bacteria. A cat's body will respond to this by sending out an immune response targeting the bacteria which causes the inflammation resulting in gingivitis. Plaque build up can be caused by a number of things including, genetic factors, tooth crowding, diet, immunodeficiency, and how one chooses to manage their pet's oral health.

What measures should I take at home to prevent dental diseases for my cat?

Tooth brushing (using feline toothpaste which is not the same as human toothpaste), dental chews, using Vetrident additive for water. For cats with advanced dental disease(s), we suggest using prescription feed that is targeted for pets with dental health issues.
